Seafront workshop since 2009

Bikes built for the long way home.

An independent bike shop on the harbour front. We sell honest bikes, keep them rolling for years, and know every hill and headwind on this coast.

The shop on the harbour

A workshop first, a shop second.

The Pedal Den started in 2009 in a narrow unit on Harbour Parade, two doors down from the old fish market. Marta had been fixing bikes out of her garage for friends; when the lease came up she took the leap, hung a repair stand in the window, and never really stopped.

We are not a big-box store. We stock what actually suits this coast: steady town bikes for the seafront path, dependable commuters for the climb up Mill Lane, and a wall of good second-hand frames we have checked over ourselves. If a bike is not right for you, we will say so.

Most of what pays the bills is the workshop out back. Salt air is hard on chains and cables, so we see the same riders season after season, learn their bikes, and keep the good ones going for a decade or more. That is the whole idea.

Two things we do properly.

Prices below are our standard rates. Parts are quoted on top and we always ring first if a job runs past the estimate.

Bikes for sale

Harbour Path town bike

from £389

Upright, mudguards, rack fitted as standard. Built for the flat seafront run and the walk up to the shops.

Mill Lane commuter

from £629

Eight-speed hub, disc brakes, dynamo lights. The one we sell most of to people who ride the climb every morning.

Checked-over second-hand

£120–£450

Trade-ins we have stripped, cleaned and re-cabled. Each comes with our workshop stamp and a 30-day check.

Kids' bikes (16"–24")

from £185

Learner runners through to first geared bikes. We size them properly rather than sell them a year too big.

Panniers, lights & locks

£14–£95

The kit that actually survives salt and rain. We only stock brands we have run ourselves.

Repairs & servicing

Puncture & tube swap

£12

Booked or walked in. Most done while you wait with a coffee across the road.

Bronze safety service

£45

Brakes and gears set, bolts torqued, tyres and chain checked. The one we recommend twice a year on this coast.

Silver full service

£85

Drivetrain deep-clean, cables replaced, hubs and headset checked, wheels trued. Turnaround two to three days.

Hand-built wheel

from £70 labour

Tensioned and trued on the stand by hand. Rims and spokes to suit your riding, quoted separately.

Winter salt strip-down

£110

Full teardown, corrosion clean, re-grease and rebuild. Book it before the wet months and thank yourself in spring.

Not sure what your bike needs? Wheel it in and we will take a look for free, or book a slot below.

How a repair works

No mystery, no upsell. Here is exactly what happens when you bring a bike in.

01

Bring it in

Walk in any opening hour or book a slot. We look it over on the stand with you there.

02

Honest quote

You get a written estimate before we start. Nothing extra happens without a phone call.

03

We fix it

Most jobs turn around the same week. We text you the moment it is rolling again.

04

30-day check

Bring it back within a month for a free once-over on anything we touched. On the house.

Behind the stand

The crew

Four of us, all riders, all here most days. Ask for whoever knows your bike best.

Marta Vinceli

Owner & head mechanic

Opened the shop in 2009. Builds every wheel that leaves the workshop and can hear a worn bearing from across the floor.

Tom Ridley

Workshop mechanic

Handles the service queue and the winter strip-downs. Rides the Mill Lane climb before work most mornings, rain or shine.

Amara Okafor

Shop floor & fitting

Gets people on the right bike, the right size. Runs our kids' fitting Saturdays and knows every trade-in on the wall.

Rohan Patel

Apprentice

Two years in and already the fastest on punctures. Studying his Cytech grade on his days off the floor.

What riders say

A few from the wall by the till.

"Took my old tourer in expecting bad news. Marta re-cabled the lot, trued both wheels and it rides better than the day I bought it. Fair price, no drama."

Gareth H.

"Bought a second-hand commuter for the school run. They sized it for me, fitted a rack and threw in the 30-day check. Rohan even adjusted the seat again a fortnight later, no charge."

Priya S.
last month

"Winter strip-down on my hub-gear commuter. Took an extra day because a part had to come in, but they called ahead and it came back spotless. Will book again next autumn."
